What happens next?

When a good night with friends and a few fun drinks ends with blue lights in your rear-view mirror, a person is full of uncertainty and anxiety. Unfortunately the frustration and worry can only worsen because, in Pennsylvania, weeks could pass before you are even officially charged with a DUI.

If you’ve been pulled over for a night of bad decisions, contact attorney Rick Cohen.  With over 40 years of experience, Rick Cohen has the experience and knowledge to guide you through the process and ease your mind about the future.

A three-tiered approach to DUI

In Pittsburgh, the Pennsylvania graduated evaluation offers offenders options when an experienced DUI Defense Attorney is guiding you through the process. Based on your Blood Alcohol Content at the time of arrest, each person will fall into one of the following ranges:

  • General Impairment (.08 to .099 percent BAC)
  • High BAC (.10 to .159 percent)
  • Highest BAC (.16 percent and higher)

Based on prior offenses, your range will be broken into three secondary categories.  If you have no prior offenses, your DUI Attorney will have more flexible options for you. A person with prior offenses and the highest BAC will potentially face 1-5 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.  It is important to contact Rick Cohen immediately to start forming your defense and negotiation.

If the person charged with a DUI has a Commercial Drivers License, or CDL, the ramifications can be severe, including loss of the license.  Anyone who drives a Bus, Commercial Vehicle, TriAxle, Transports Hazardous Waste or a vehicle weighing more than 26,000 lbs is held to a higher standard behind the wheel.  Even if not driving your commercial vehicle at the time of the DUI Charge, you will likely face penalties on your CDL License.

Many Minors anyone under the legal drinking age who is charged with a DUI will likely be charged under a more severe rubric.  It is vitally important that a college student contact a DUI Lawyer to help negotiate and navigate the complex legal system.  Some schools hold students to a standard that could result in expulsion if convicted of a DUI.

In many cases, Attorney Rick Cohen can negotiate with prosecutors and help reduce the sentence and help you save your license and even keep your record clean.  It is important to contact Attorney Rick Cohen, an experienced DUI Lawyer in Pittsburgh, to help you with your DUI.

The Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition in Pittsburgh

For many First Time DUI Offenders, ARD, or Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition, may be an option.  Though a complicated system, the ARD option allows you to regain a clean criminal record and may allow you to avoid a jail sentence that would have been appropriate with your BAC.

To be eligible for ARD, you should contact Rick Cohen, Attorney at Law, to discuss your eligibility for ARD.  Through rehabilitative classes, minor fines, and a few restrictions, Rick Cohen could help restore you to a peaceful driving situation.
